Man, I still remember reading about Rafer for the 1st time in SLAM issue #22; I must have read that issue over 20 times. Anyways, if you don't know much about Rafer, he was a NY street ball legend, famous for his performances at Rucker Park, and was nicknamed "Skip 2 My Lou" for the way he dribbled the basketball like a "yo-yo" (I still remember SLAM using that analogy in that issue) and skipped up the court. The video above shows you a taste of what Rafer used to do on the black top. That spin move is SILKY SMOOTH!
This video brings back good memories of '97, which was one of my favorite years ever. I went to school, ran home to watch Wu Tang's Triumph video (favorite video of all-time) on a countdown show, Nike released the Jordan Playoff XII (favorite shoes of all-time), got the Jordan XIII in white/black as a gift late in the year, and just hung out with friends. Things were nice and simple then. Don't we all miss our youth!
