From USCTrojans.com:
USC freshman O.J. Mayo scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Cardinal team to a 76-68 victory today (Oct. 28) in the annual Cardinal and Gold game held at the Galen Center. The Cardinal team rallied from a 44-40 halftime deficit to outscore the Gold team 36-24 in an abbreviated second half, called with 3:24 left in the game due to lack of players available.
Mayo's two free throws with 9:46 left in the game broke a 62-all tie and put the Cardinal team ahead for good. The Trojan freshman hit on 12 of 19 shots, including four of eight three pointers and went 6-for-6 from the line. Mayo also had six steals and four assists in the winning effort. Junior forward Keith Wilkinson also had a big game for the Cardinal team, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman point guard Angelo Johnson added 11 points and had five assists with no turnovers for the Cardinal team.
The basketball team, like the football team, has been decimated with injuries so the game didn't really show off the full potential of this team, but OJ's play is added proof that he is the real deal. So far in two official games, he is averaging 31.5 points.
